Husain Abdullah prend sa retraite

Free agent, le safety Husain Abdullah a décidé de prendre sa retraite à 30 ans. S’il aurait pu être une bonne pioche pour certaines défenses, il a préféré en rester là, principalement pour des raisons de santé. En effet, au cours de ces sept saisons en NFL, Abdullah a été cinq fois victime d’une commotion cérébrale. Celle de l’année dernière l’avait d’ailleurs privé des cinq premiers matchs de la saison.

Signé en tant que rookie non-drafté en 2008 par les Minnesota Vikings, Abdullah avait rejoint les Kansas City Chiefs en 2013. Il n’avait pas joué en 2012 pour faire le pèlerinage jusque La Mecque. En 2014, il avait réalisé l’une de ses meilleures saisons en carrière, cumulant 71 tackles, 8 passes défendues et une interception retournée en touchdown. Au total, il a participé à 97 matches, réalisé 289 plaquages, 2,5 sacks, 26 passes défendues et six interceptions.

Il a annoncé sa décision sur les réseaux sociaux et en a profité pour remercier ces deux équipes et ses supporters. Il compte désormais s’occuper de sa famille et va faire en sorte de se rendre utile pour sa communauté, son pays et le monde.

After 7 years in the NFL, I am retiring. I would like to thank the Minnesota Vikings for giving me an opportunity to make the team after going undrafted in 2008. I experienced a great deal of growth both as a football player and as a person during my 4 years in Minnesota. Thank you. The Kansas City Chiefs will forever have a special place in my heart. After sitting out of football to fulfill my Hajj Pilgrimage in 2012, The Chiefs were the first to call. The three years I spent playing for KC may have been the most enjoyable football experience in my entire life. Thank you. There are numerous deciding factors in my decision, with personal health being foremost. Sitting for five weeks last year after suffering the fifth concussion of my career, I had a lot to contemplate. My goals moving forward are to be of benefit to my family, my community, my country and hopefully the world. Having a sound mind will be vital in accomplishing these goals. Thank you to everyone I've crossed paths with during my time as a player. You've had an impact on my life for the better. Thanks for the love and support.
